Sustainability
Sustainability is an integral part of how we think, design, and deliver projects. We approach each opportunity with a focus on long-term performance, responsible resource use, and environmental stewardship, applying this lense of sustainability from the very first conversation. We develop a Sustainability Goals Matrix for each project, identifying appropriate and cost-effective strategies tailored to each client's unique site, program, and budget. From passive design principles like building orientation and continuous thermal insulation, to high-performance mechanical systems, renewable energy sources, and responsible construction practices, we evaluate every opportunity to reduce environmental impact without compromising durability or long-term value. Our portfolio of LEED-certified and Net-Zero projects — including the Huntley Fire Protection District Fire Station No. 4 Headquarters and the Lake County Lakewood Maintenance Facility — reflects a deep and demonstrated commitment to building responsibly for our clients, their communities, and our climate.
Research
Staying at the forefront of sustainable building science requires ongoing investment in knowledge — and that commitment runs throughout our firm. Our team continuously pursues new research, emerging technologies, certifications, and industry partnerships to ensure we remain on the cutting edge of best practices. But we don't keep that knowledge to ourselves. We see education as an essential part of every project — equipping facility operators to run buildings as intended, and helping clients and community members understand the real-world impact of the sustainable choices embedded in their spaces. In this way, every building and site becomes a living laboratory for community education. Together, we believe this shared understanding is how architects and the communities they serve can become better stewards of the environment for generations to come.
